Lydia was born on November 3, 1918 in Morris, Manitoba and as a young girl moved to Winnipeg with her family. Lydia was active in her church, loved singing and the drama club. She was s stylish and independent woman from beginning to end. She was hard working and her career took her to Regina and then back to Winnipeg. Lydia married widower James Dodds-“the catch of Elmwood”- in 1961 and instantly became a step mom to Jimmy and George. Lydia and Jim created a wonderful life together: enjoying their family home on Noble Avenue and spending winters in Arizona where Lydia enjoyed golf, aerobics and entertaining. Lyd and Jim’s passion however was travel and they literally cruised the world together- a favorite activity Lydia continued with after Jim’s death well into her eighties.
Lydia was tremendously proud that she lived on her own in her apartment until one month before her 99th birthday. She loved a good laugh and socializing with friends and family. She faced her health challenges with grace and determination always fiercely guarding her privacy and independence.
The funeral for Lydia will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2018, 10 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Cemetery.
