Marion was born on her father’s farm in the Minitonas Municipality in the Swan River Valley in Manitoba to Aaron and Mabel Long. She attended Christian youth activities and had the presence of a loving family. She was deaf from childhood but learned to lip read. She never complained, nor asked for anything for herself. She always smiled and thought of others. Her siblings and her parents adored her.
She married Homer Jeffrey on March 29, 1941. Together they raised four children. The couple farmed in the Bowsman, Manitoba area until their retirement in 1980. Since Feb. 7, 2009, Marion and Homer have lived at Amber Meadow in Winnipeg. Her friends there and in Swan River Valley remain very dear to her.
Marion will be remembered as an excellent helpmate, a fine cook, seamstress, gardener, and even a traveler. She had a lovely, open manner. She was free to say good things, one of which was to re-tell a dream in which she was shown how good God had been to her all her life.
Geneology through her niece, Verdel, tells us Mom is the longest living member of the Long family.
Marion was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Russell Long, Wallace Long and Willis Long; and sister, Gladys Walton.
She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her children, Carole (George) Bates; Glen (Valerie) Jeffrey; Judy (Ron) McLeod; and Russell (Nancy) Jeffrey.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Georgia (Lloyd) Wells, Tyler (Mona) Bates, Ryan (Joanne) Bates, Glenda Jeffrey (Bob Lebo), Heather Perkins (Don Case), Shannon (Keith) Robins; Karen (Michael) Grant, Annette (Michael) Richie; Mitchell (Kelli), Libby, Paula, and Blaine Jeffrey; her great-grandchildren, Chasity, Emory Wells; Cheyenne, Hannah and Chad Bates; Melanie and Jennifer Perkins; Jeffrey, Aiden and Quinn Robins; Leah, Claire and Emily Grant; as well as her nieces, Betty Madsen, Verdel (Clarence) Honoway, and Margie Armstrong; her nephews, Dennis (Debbie) Long, Neil McEachern, Keith (Debbie) Watson, Jim Watson and Wayne (Marilyn) Pope.
Friends so wishing may make a donation in Marion’s memory to a charity of their choice.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her life will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan United Church, 174 Pentland St. A reception will follow the service and interment will take place in Bowsman, MB at a later date.
