It is with sadness that we announce the death of Mary Murray in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 23, 2019 at the age of 98. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her family, including children James Murray (Dee), John Murray (Ellen), Judy Strang (Rod), Ken Murray (Debbie), David Murray (Jackie), grandchildren Dean, Amanda, Leah, Chris, Jill, Troy, Alex, Ted, Jon, Elizabeth, Graham, Jeffery, Robert, Derek, Nicole, Delaney and numerous great-grandchildren. Mary is predeceased by her parents J. A. Victor and Pearl David, brother Charles David, sisters Doris Southern and Eileen Bate, husband Fred Murray and son James Murray.
Born on the family farm in Killarney, Manitoba on SE 7-3-17, RM of Turtle Mountain, February 23, 1921. Mary was born with struggles and never forgot being trampled by a bull on the farm when about 3 years old. She grew up in the horse and buggy days, to flying in jet planes in a very changing world. The dirty 30’s and the war years kept her cognizant of the save-everything aspects until her passing, with a large collection of napkins - her children still have not found them all. Married to Fred Murray in 1941 and waited for his return while he served overseas with the RAF in WW II. Then lived in various locations in Saskatchewan, finally moving to Winnipeg permanently.
She loved a game of Bridge and played with a regular group as well as going ahead to win a seniors tournament for all of Manitoba. She took trips home to Killarney every year, with the last visit home being in 2016. The family cottage in Killarney was her second home, so she could visit her parents regularly until their passing. She loved her visits by the grandchildren, and was especially proud of her grand-daughter Elizabeth, who was also born in Killarney, and went on to be the Official Piper for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee visit to Manitoba. Mary did some travel and visited family as regularly as possible.
Family struggles started young with the loss of her brother Charles on the family farm when he was only 16 years, and followed by numerous aunts, uncles and grandparents. The hardest losses were of her oldest son James, followed by her husband Fred only 2 weeks later. Her parents and siblings all passing kept Mary in a state of grieving she never completely healed from. She resided in Winnipeg until her passing, with her last residence being at Oakview Place.
At Mary’s request, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Private Family Interment at the David Family plot at Killarney Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to The JAV David Museum, Killarney, MB. Please no flowers or cards.
