Peacefully on April 20, 2020, our Mom left us after a long and happy life. She will be remembered by: her children Audrey, Bill, and Orest (Gloria); her grandchildren Bonnie (Brad) Collignon, Tracey (Richard) Sault, Sandra (Bruce) Friesen, Janet (Korey) Bomek, Richard (Angie) Recunyk, Kris Lischynski and Teri Recunyk; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Mary was born in Broad Valley, Manitoba on August 16, 1914 to Panko and Anny Grushka. She was raised on the farm in Broad Valley with her brothers Fred (Jean) and Bill (Helen). When asked about her childhood she would say it was happy, but it was a hard life where they were constantly picking stones from the fields.
Mary married Peter on February 4, 1943. They lived in Hodgson and Toronto before settling in Winnipeg. Fiercely independent, after Peter’s passing she continued to live in their home, at Westminster Avenue, learned how to drive (not well) and work as a housekeeper until she was
77 when she decided to sell her house and move into an apartment.
Our Mom made sure our house was always full of the smell of good food, music, family and friends. Many will remember Christmas, perogies and fun stories at Baba’s house. All were welcome and never left hungry or thirsty. Her love for her family never wavered and her favorite times were when we were all together.
Mom saw many changes in her lifetime and adapted to the changing world with determination. She kept her mind sharp by always having a puzzle or wordsearch handy. She even learned how to play solitaire on the iPad.
At 102 Mom required assisted living. There are not enough words to express our gratitude to staff at Park Manor (2nd floor) where she was cared for with love and dignity. They were there when we could not be and we trusted that they would care for our precious Mom without reservation. Thank you.
Mom was loved by many, including: her nieces Deanna, Diana, Margie; nephew Julian; her Godson Bill and their extended families. We would like to thank Gloria, Cindy, Kathy, Francis and Harry for their welcome visits.
We are all grateful to have had the honour of her presence and life lessons through four generations. May you rest in peace and be welcomed back into the arms of your beloved Peter, your loving son-in-law Norm and the many family and friends that have gone before you.
Due to the Coronavirus a private graveside service was held Friday April 24, 2020. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Chaplain Alan Delotavo officiated.
A celebration of life will be scheduled when possible.

Friends say "Hi Mary"
Relatives, "Hi Aunty Mary"
Children, "Hi Mom"
Grandchildren, "Hi Baba I love you"
There's love, laughter, worries & tears
But what wonderful feelings.
If that's not something to
Live for, I don't know what is.
