Unexpectedly on July 9, 2024, Nancy passed away with her family by her side. Nancy was 73 years old and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Nancy is survived by the love of her life of over 50 years David Finley, her children Meaghan (Eddy) Travale, Matthew (Michelle) Finley, and Patrick (Mallory Gibson) Finley, as well as grandchildren Logan, Dominic, Riley, Taylor, Grayson, Abigail, Ella, and Owen who were the light of her life. Nancy is also survived by her brother Robert Hallett.
Nancy is preceded by her parents Stanley and Irene Hallett.
Nancy was born on January 7, 1951, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in St. James. She married Dave in 1974 and welcomed three children into the world. For Nancy family meant everything and was her sole purpose in life. Nancy had a caring spirit and volunteered in palliative care, with Special Olympics, at her children’s schools, as well as many other organizations. Nancy was especially close to a Westminster Church Women’s group which has met continuously for nearly 50 years, and she always looked forward to these monthly get togethers. Nancy was active in her congregation at Westminster for many years. Nancy belonged to many groups including a decade’s long bridge club, and a lady’s golf club. Nancy worked at AON Consulting after rearing her children until she retired in 2010, to care for her ailing mother. Nancy always worked diligently at caring for her brother, and her love for him was unwavering.
Relationships were the most important thing to Nancy, and she had an amazing ability to make every person feel like they were special. Nancy spent meaningful time with each grandchild, baking with them, taking them to museums, attractions, parks, as well as playing dress up and reading countless bedtime stories. She became a confidant to her older grandchildren and was a best friend to the younger ones. As a mother Nancy was affectionate, caring, and a guiding light. She never left one word unsaid, and she was her children’s strongest supporters through all of life’s challenges.
Dave and Nancy celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 22 of this year. Their marriage was one of love, friendship, and laughter. They spent their retirement years travelling together and with friends, as well as attending Jets games, and Grandchildren’s sporting events. Their favourite space by far was the cottage at Barren Lake which has been in the family since 1967 and is affectionately called “The Gathering Place” because it is where the family all comes together.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home on August 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Manitoba.
