

Survived by his beloved wife Joan (nee Day) of 61 years and his much-loved children: daughter Jodi Penner, and son Robert Rusnak (Elyshia). His cherished grandchildren, Gus (Dani) and Connor (Baylie) McLaren, and Gwyneth (Taha) Rusnak-Kahn and Chloe Rusnak. His favourite and only great grandson, Jasper Rusnak. Siblings Michael Rusnak, Nancy Mehkary and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was born as the middle child of eleven siblings and raised in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
He worked for CN Signals and Communications for 35 years. Following his retirement, he worked for the Transportation Safety Board for 5 years.
Nick and Joan retired to their cottage on Eagle Lake, Vermilion Bay in 2000, where they spent 25 happy years. Much of that time was spent entertaining family and friends with their wonderful hospitality.
During his life, Nick enjoyed curling, fishing and golfing with his many friends. He loved to work around the property and always kept things ship-shape as well as helping anyone who needed it.
As the years went by, he became active in the V Bay community, as the United Church Treasurer for 12 years and the Interim President of Happy Go Lucky Seniors Centre during Covid.
In 2023, Nick was diagnosed with cancer and spent the next year and a half travelling to the Oncology Unit in Dryden where he became a favourite of the staff and received excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Nick's memory be made to the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Celebration of Nick’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Happy Go Lucky Seniors’ Centre, 22 Main Street, Vermilion Bay, ON.
Interment will take place in Winnipeg at a later date.
