Niranjan Dwarkadas Vyas

It is with tremendous love that we announce the peaceful passing of Niranjan Dwarkadas Vyas on July 24th 2024 at 79 years old. Niranjan will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Hemali, son-in-law Nicholas and granddaughter Asha along with his family and friends across the world. He is predeceased by his wife Kusum, parents Dwarkadas and Nirmala, and siblings Kokila and Manoj.

Niranjan (Naren) was born in Kakira, Uganda where his father, Dwarkadas, worked as the lead engineer for the Kakira Sugar Factory. Throughout his life Naren would recount stories of the fun he had growing up surrounded by his family. His love of gardening grew from this time and he would often share stories of picking fresh tropical fruits and staining his pockets purple-much to his mother’s chagrin.

In the early 1960’s, Niranjan moved to Mumbai, India to pursue higher education. In Mumbai, Naren developed some of his most meaningful friendships, beginning when he moved in with Kishore Trivedi and his wife, Geeta. Naren carried his youthfulness throughout the rest of his life, and his time in Mumbai was a brightness that he carried always.

In the 1970’s Naren moved to the United Kingdom to join his family again, who had left Uganda during the South Asian Expulsion. There he married his wife Kusum, in 1976, and together they enjoyed life together with his family in Leicester.

In 1987, Niranjan and Kusum moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to join Kusum’s family. While living in Winnipeg, Naren worked at Motor Coach Industries where he treasured the friendships he made with his colleagues there. In 1988, their precious daughter Hemali was born. Niranjan was a fun, loving, gentle, and generous Father, fulfilling one of the most sacred duties of his life.

When Kusum passed in 2021, Niranjan moved in with Hemali and Nicholas where he enjoyed the last few years on the Assiniboine river. Naren was overjoyed when his granddaughter, Asha, was born in 2023 and he spent the last months of his life celebrating every precious moment with her.

Niranjan’s funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 2:00pm at Thompson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
