Help me be a good sport in this game of life. I don't ask for an easy place in the line-up. Put me anywhere you need me. I only ask that I can give you 100 percent of everything I have. If all the hard drives seem to come my way, I thank you for the compliment. Help me remember that you never send a player more trouble than he can handle.
Help me, Lord, to accept the bad breaks as part of the game. May I always play on the square, no matter what the others do. Help me study the Book so I'll know the rules.
Finally, God, if the natural turn of events goes against me and I'm benched for sickness or old age, help me to accept that as part of the game, too. Keep me from whimpering that I was framed or that I got a raw deal. And when I finish the final inning, I ask for no laurels. All I want is to believe in my heart that I played as well as I could and that I didn't let you down. ~ Richard Cardinal Cushing
Growing up with two brothers encouraged Ollie to excel in track and field and speed skating.
She attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate.
Ollie married Harold when she was 18. They had 4 Children, 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Ollie worked at the Celebrity Box Office at the old Winnipeg Stadium.
She landed her "dream job" as a ward clerk at Victoria General Hospital and worked there for many years.
She bowled with family and friends at Niakwa Bowling Alley and Billy Mosienko Lanes.
Then Ollie got the curling bug and was hooked, she curled at the St. Vital and Heather Curling Clubs. Travelled to many Scotties Tournaments and went to Scotland for the World Curling.
Ollie was also an avid golfer, starting at the Transcona Golf Course and then St. Boniface Golf Club.
At the young age of 50, she decided to try skate boarding only to fall and break her wrist.
Ollie and Harold moved to Langley, BC in the early 80's to be closer to their daughter Valerie and returned to Winnipeg a few years later. While in Langley, Ollie worked part time at the Langley General hospital.
Ollie made many friends while golfing and curling, and traveled to Portugal and spent many winters in San Antonio, Texas with them.
Not only did she enjoy sports, she loved to play cards and dominos with family and friends.
Ollie enjoyed attending Windsor Park United Church when she could.
The family would like to thank all the home caregivers who made it possible for her to be at home, most of all Dr. Brian Sharkey, for all the years of caring.
To Those I Love, and Those Who Loved Me
When I am gone, release me let me go
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears;
Be happy that we had so many years
I gave to you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for all the Love you each have shown,
But now it’s time I travelled on alone.
So grieve for a while for me if grieve you must;
Then let your grief be comforted by trust,
It’s only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on;
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see me or touch me, I’ll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear
All of my love around you soft and clear
And then when you must come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile and say “Welcome home”
