With heavy hearts, the family of Phil L’Heureux announces his recent passing at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. Phil and his beloved wife Marilyn were a week into their annual Palm Springs winter vacation when he suffered a massive heart attack. Family and friends maintained a constant vigil at his bedside until he slipped away, peacefully and with great dignity. He was never alone.
Phil leaves to mourn his beloved wife, and best friend Marilyn L’Heureux. He is also survived by his sister Claudette Blunderfield (the late Fred Blunderfield), his nephew Dan, (wife Allison Darroch, children Levi and Amelia Blunderfield), his two nieces Nicole Roch (husband Dan Roch, children Maxwell and Meredith Harley, Katja, Anika, and Zara Roch), and Renée Mathieson (husband Colin Mathieson). Phil is also survived by his beloved canine companion Maggie.
Phil was born in Winnipeg to Aimé and Jeanne L’Heureux, and grew up in St. Boniface. He was a successful businessman and salesman, founding and running the Label Place for many years until his retirement.
Phil was active in the sailing and boating community at Northern Harbour, where he was known for his woodworking skills. He was so generous with his time, building cockpit tables, repairing boats, and always ready to help out a friend who needed a hand. He was an easy choice for commodore of the Lowisa sailing race, because he was such a natural leader.
Phil was known for his gregarious demeanour, canny engineering sense, and great love of technology. From having one of the first car phones in Winnipeg to persuading all of his friends they ‘had to have’ the latest gadget, Phil was always one step ahead of everyone.
Our lives will never be the same without Phil’s big laugh, his twinkling eyes, his generosity, zest for life, and his wicked sense of humour. We are so fortunate to have known him, and we will never be the same without him. We all loved him so much.
A celebration of Phil’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday December 17th, 2012, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
