It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raj Kumar Bahl, deeply loved husband, father, brother, uncle, and a friend to many. Peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2022, he passed away after a long fight with various ailments at St. Boniface Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pramila Bahl of 35 years and his son, Ankit Bahl. Raj is also survived by his two brothers and one sister. He will be greatly missed by his many cousins, nephews, and nieces across Canada and India.
Raj was born and raised in Delhi, India. He completed his high school and university education in Delhi. Raj was a very hard-working and jolly individual. Before migrating to North America, he spent time and worked in places such as Afghanistan, Germany, and other parts of Europe, often travelling by road from place to place. He then moved and worked in California for a few years before finally settling in Winnipeg in 1986. He opened a convenience store in Winnipeg shortly after. Then, he was married in India in 1987 to Pramila Bahl. From 1988 to 2020, him and his wife ran a gift shop specializing in jewellery and clothing in places like The Forks Market, Portage Place, and Osborne Village. In 1996, they were blessed with their son, Ankit.
Raj Bahl was a man who loved to tell stories and make jokes with those around him. Despite battling kidney disease for more than 11 years, he always remained in high spirits. Him and his wife built a community around their store. They also participated in festivals across the city as vendors. Raj Bahl was an active member of the Hindu Society of Manitoba temples. He was also fond of Indian food and Bollywood movies.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the medical team at St. Boniface hospital, as well as the dialysis unit at Seven Oaks Hospital for looking after him. They would also like to extend thanks to all family and friends who have been supportive in this time.
