It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Bob Brock on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 90 years of age. Bob passed away peacefully at the Seven Oaks Hospital after a two day stay with his loving family by his side.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Kay); parents Julia Campbell and Aubrey Brock, step-father Fred Campbell, sisters Audrey, Joyce, Dorothy, two infant brothers, an infant grandson, Dustin.
Bob will be greatly missed by his only child, Leslie (Robert), and his twin granddaughters Kelly and Rorie. Bob will also be remembered by his siblings Jack (Dorothy), Shirley, Murray, Merle and numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout Bob's 90 years he had many names, he was fondly referred to as "Uncle Stoney" or "Stoney" by his numerous nieces, nephews, and long time family friends. Work and lake friends referred to him as "Bob", and "Mr. B" was also a preferred name by some of my high school friends.
Bob was never afraid of hard work and was a very committed employee for 38 years with the City of Winnipeg, retiring at 58. He was known as a teaser and a joker but always displayed great work ethics, moving up the ladder from a laborer to a Senior Clerk in the Payroll Dept. Realizing that retirement was not for him he quickly secured a full time seasonal job at the Winnipeg Winter Club as a bowling alley manager. He loved this seasonal position, socializing with the members and taking pride in the care and maintenance of the alleys. He worked at the Winter Club for 12 years until his love of his life, his wife Kay took ill and he became her primary caregiver.
Bob had many passions and interests throughout the decades from curling, fishing, to camping, traveling, cottage life and his dedication to joining charitable organizations. He was very active in The Scottish Rite,The Masons and was a very proud Shriner, belonging to the Komedian Unit. He was very honored to belong and enjoyed the evening meetings and events that he attended until his mid 80's.
Bob loved going to his cottage at Lac du Bonnet with his family where he spent many hours in his hot tub, riding his lawn mower, listening to the birds on his screened in porch and visiting his neighbours on his golf cart, sometimes referred to as the "Chariot". Burnt toast, and fire alarms going off in his cottage was not an uncommon sound when dad was in the kitchen.
Travel became a priority throughout the years with Bob. He enjoyed seeing the world and his family will hold onto the many memories of these shared all inclusive trips and cruises that he proudly took us on. At the age of 85 he insisted on seeing Europe, a 12 Day Cruise that he thought was one of his greatest adventures of his life. Thank you dad, these travel memories will never be forgotten.
Those who knew Bob, knew that his twin granddaughters, Kelly and Rorie were the light of his life. In his eyes these girls could do no wrong and when they were off on their travels, living on another continent, he was lost without them, constantly asking when they were coming home. We are all grateful that his "girls' were all beside him when he passed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
Dad had a great sense of humour and a smile
that would light up a room.
We love you.
We miss you.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff on Unit 2 at the Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion.
