He is lovingly remembered by his brother Douglas (Pat); sisters-in-law Jean and Susan; daughter Pamela (David); son Austin (Darlene); and granddaughter Juniper, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gladys and Talbot Vialoux; his brothers Montague, William (Bill), and James; his sister-in-law Heather; and his nephew Dean.
Ron was born on October 22, 1950, in Bissett, Manitoba. He grew up immersed in the outdoors—camping, fishing, and hunting—and cherished time spent with his brothers and extended family, especially when music and card games were involved. After completing Grade 11 Occupational Entrance courses at Selkirk Collegiate, he was mentored by Park Ranger Bud Bowls, who inspired him to become a Fire Watcher and later pursue a career as a Conservation Officer.
During high school, Ron met Phyllis Unrau of Manigotagan. They later married and had two children, Pamela and Austin. After their divorce in 1979, Ron continued to share his love of nature with his children, spending countless hours exploring the outdoors wherever his work took him.
Ron dedicated his career to serving as a Conservation Officer throughout Manitoba, including postings in Lethbridge, Clearwater Lake (near The Pas), Whiteshell Provincial Park, the Selkirk/Lockport area, Dauphin, Grindstone Park, Birds Hill Provincial Park, and his favourite, the Lac du Bonnet region. Known to some as a “Conversation Officer” due to his warm and talkative nature, Ron had an exceptional ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His late Aunt Bessie fondly described it as “the gift of the gab.”
Ron also shared a deep bond with animals, caring for many unique pets over the years and becoming known for his incredible stories of rescuing wildlife in the most unexpected circumstances.
A gifted musician, Ron began playing guitar at a young age and found great joy in entertaining others. He was a passionate supporter of the Winnipeg Folk Festival during its early years. After retiring, he moved to Patricia Beach, where he continued to advocate for the development and preservation of parklands. Eventually, due to health challenges, he relocated to Winnipeg.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for close friends and immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Beaches Animal Services, an organization Ron deeply supported and cared about.
