Lovingly surrounded by family, Roy’s journey came to an end, in the early hours of February 3, 2023 at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 89 years.
Roy was predeceased by his loving wife Joyce in April, 2013. Celebrating his life are his daughters Kim & Bruce Welsh and Keri & Geoff Oliver. His memory will be cherished by his loving grandchildren, Aynsley Welsh & Stephen Boyd, Andrea & Branden Keast, Bryn & Heather Oliver and Cameron & Caroline Oliver. Also left to remember Great Papa with love, are the ‘Greats’, Hayden, Jace, Hudson, Rhys, Shea, Josie, Sloane, Freya, Lennon & Geoffrey. Roy was also awaiting the arrival of #11, Cam & Caroline’s new baby in March.
Roy is also survived by his brother Robin & wife Doreen, his dear sister-in-law Barbara Bellingham & special niece Dana Strapazzon, as well as many other nephews & nieces.
Roy enjoyed a 39-year career with TCA/Air Canada, retiring in the early 90’s. This left lots of time for he & Joyce to enjoy their Golden Years curling, golfing and travelling the globe on so many adventures. Many Caribbean holidays were shared with their Air Canada group providing years of entertainment, regaling their escapades. Cruises, an extended stay in Australia & New Zealand and the Big One in Roy’s eyes, the Safari in Kenya were all part of their Travelogue.
In 2010, Roy & Joyce moved to the Seine River Retirement Residence, where they began a new chapter in their life and forged many new relationships. After Mom’s passing in 2013, these friendships helped Roy continue on as he was encouraged to participate in various activities within the Seine community.
Their little piece of Heaven was ‘The Lighthouse’ on 7th at Victoria Beach. So many happy memories were made at the cottage as 10 people tried to cohabitate during the summer months. Roy & Joyce opened their cabin to all, but it was truly the Grands, who benefited the most, each spending such quality time with their Papa & Nanny throughout the season. Ayns, Andie, Bryn & Cam have wonderful recollections of summers at the cottage, swimming, biking, bakery runs & just being beach bums. This legacy will carry on for generations to come.
As per Roy’s wishes, no service will be held. A man of few words, his only request was a family party, no prayers, just a toast. So, please raise a glass to the best bartender and host.
Rest easy Papa. We love you xoxo
