It is with profound sadness the we share that our Father, Russell Ellwood Martin, aged 93, has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 18, 2021 in Winnipeg.
Russell was predeceased by his wife, Beverley Martin (Bell), his infant daughter, Roxanne, his sister Mildred Collard and brother Harry Martin.
Russell is survived by his son, Ronald Martin (Michelle), daughter, Rebecca Van Nieuw Amerongen (Dirk) and their children, Russell’s grandchildren, Victoria and Nolan.
Russell was born in Pontrilas, Saskatchewan on March 9, 1928 to Ernest and Muriel Martin. They later moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan to farm. Russell began his career with Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. He started to enjoy his winter trips to Acapulco, Mexico. It was there in 1965 that he met a nurse, from Winnipeg around the pool. On September 24, 1966, he and Beverley were married. A few years later, they had their son, Ron and then three years after that, they completed the adoption of their daughter, Rebecca. A year later, their daughter, Roxanne was born but sadly deceased 4 months later.
Russell began his next and final career with CP Rail as an electrician where he worked until his retirement in 1993. He was also an avid “Bee Keeper” and had many friends and customers enjoy his honey.
We extend our profound gratitude to the St. Norbert Personal Care Home where dad has been for the past three years. Their efforts and compassionate care were outstanding.
Due to COVID, a private service and interment will be held at Thomson “In the Park” and Waverley Memorial Gardens on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00am. Those who wish may view the livestream by following this link: https://youtu.be/Wrs51ZZWKNs
