Mom was born in Selkirk Manitoba at the Selkirk General Hospital and was raised on a farm outside Clandeboye, MB. She attended school in Clandeboye and Winnipeg. Mom was active with the 4H Club were she found her love of sewing and fashion. She was always dressed “to the nines” .... but it was really “to the tens”. Mom won many 4H Ribbons for her sewing. She could reupholster a family couch at the age of 12 and did. She made many dresses for me and my sister Sandy. Mom had great style and grace.
She attended Secretarial school in Winnipeg (1958) and met her lifelong best friend, our Auntie Eve (Evelyn Downey). They had many adventures in life including raising their families together. After raising their kids they had many trips, especially to BC. They loved to travel those ladies. Many memories were shared over the years.
Travelling was a great joy in Mom’s life, travelling with family and friends, her sisters and brothers and her kids ...... our last trip together was to Florida in the fall of 2019 to see our beautiful sister and Mom’s daughter Sandy. It was a sad trip but happy we got to go.
Mom had a long career working in the banking industry starting with The CIBC bank in Winnipeg and later with Dominion Securities in Vancouver. She moved to BC in 1986 and later returned to Winnipeg after retirement in 2001. She went on to work for a sampling company out of Costco. One day my girlfriend and long time family friend (Janet Jensen) came into the store and was looking for something and shouted to my Mom “Hey lady ........” and then noticed that she knew Mom and they laughed about that often. She was a very hard worker all her life.
We celebrated Mom’s 75th Birthday in Winnipeg in 2016 which was well attended by family and friends. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren always and loved them dearly.
Mom loved her kids very much and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
We love you our beautiful Mom.
Your loving family forever. XOXOXO
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held when we can all gather.
