Our dearest mom, Ruth Irene Nichols (nee Matchett) passed away with family by her side on March 16th, 2022. Ruth was born to James and Catherine Matchett on November 28th, 1937. She and her three siblings, Jim, Bob (Darlene) and Jeanne (Claire) were raised in the Treherne area. She grew up a farm girl, and it is there where she learned her toughness, resilience, and grit.
These traits shaped her life. Ruth was hard working, stubborn, and hilarious. She was loving and the epitome of kindness. Her smile was everything.
Family was most important to Ruth. She met and married the love of her life, Cliff, while teaching in The Pas. They were married 45 years before he passed away in 2008. Together they raised three daughters with the same love for family and community.
Ruth was never idle. She was always busy with her teaching, bowling, curling, baking her famous dainties, puttering in her cabin’s garden, and raising her three girls, Kerri (Thorsten) Shelley (Mark) and Lori (Jake). Her beloved grandchildren were witness to her kindness and love of family. She was proud of her grandsons, Joshua, Jacob, Sam and Jackson and granddaughters Isabella and Gabrielle. She loved them just as she had loved us.
Mom taught us to be strong and independent women, good sisters, good moms, and good people. Her kindness will continue through her children and grandchildren. Always in our hearts.
An interment service will be held this summer at Castleavery Cemetery.
