Sopan Tukaram Chaudhari

Sopan Tukaram Chaudhari, 61, passed away on Sunday, March 21st, 2021. He was born in Kothali, India in 1959, the son of Tukaram and Narmada Chaudhari. He is survived by his wife Purnima, daughter Shruti, son Shreyas, and beloved fur baby Bentley.

Sopan grew up in India in a family of six siblings. From an early age, he was encouraged by his family to pursue a career in the life sciences. He completed his undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in organic chemistry. After arriving in Canada in 1998 with his wife and daughter, he completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Saskatchewan. Then he went on to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals. He took great pride in his work and was greatly loved by his colleagues. Not only did he impact many lives through his work, but he also deeply enriched the lives of those around him. Sopan was known for his selfless nature, and he was always the first to help in times of need.

His evening walk with his two best friends was a highlight of his day. He loved to show off the steps counted on his brand-new Fitbit given to him by his family. He was very conscious of his health. He insisted on a wholesome diet, and maintained a daily practice of walking, yoga, meditation, and pranayama. He always remained culturally rooted in his ancestral village in Maharashtra. For several years, he was an active member of the Maharashtra Mandal of Manitoba.

Due to the public health measures in place owing to the pandemic, an intimate and closed memorial service will be held for Sopan on Saturday, March 27th, 2021. On behalf of the Chaudhari family, we thank you for your support and ask that you continue to keep Sopan in your prayers.
