Thomas Wray Bone was born April 6th, 1928 and was the second child of Bessie and Bill Bone and had one sister Betty King whom he adored.
He is survived by Audrey his wife of 66 years; his son Gord and wife Tracey, their children Kristopher, Bryden and Amanda; daughter Barb Quesnel and husband Leigh and their children Danika and Gabrielle; as well as other nephews and nieces.
Wray was a life-long resident of Winnipeg and attended Lord Roberts Elementary and Kelvin High schools. He met his sweetheart Audrey Armitage in 1946. They married in 1950 and enjoyed 66 wonderful years of love and companionship. He was a devoted father and grandfather and loved to tell stories and make others laugh.
Wray was a proud member of the Winnipeg Fire Department and served for 33 years. He began his firefighting career in 1955 and retired as District Chief in 1988. Over the years he formed many life-long friendships with fellow firefighters and enjoyed the camaraderie, the breakfasts and volunteer work that he continued many years after his retirement. He was an active volunteer at Crescentwood Community Club when his children were young and was often the guy behind the scenes making things happen. Both Wray and Audrey were avid curlers and much fun was had with their many pals at Fort Rouge Curling Club.
Wray had a knack for building and fixing and before the Fire Department worked as a painter, learning the trade from the age of 14 while employed in the family business. Painting remained a life-long passion, he was very good, and his skills were constantly put to good use. Wray was everyone’s “Maytag Man” – there was very little he couldn’t fix or improve and was always available to lend a helping hand. Building a cabin at Caddy Lake in the Whiteshell in 1952 was a dream come true. The original structure was just the start, over the next 50+ years he put in thousands of hours improving, expanding and maintaining, it was his version of relaxation, (until around 3:00 pm when it was time for a seasonally appropriate beverage). Many happy times with family and friends, particularly the Doners and the Stoughtons, was spent at the lake.
A service will take place on Saturday, January 7 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to our friends and family for their love and support this past year, and a special thankyou to the staff at Deer Lodge Hospital for their amazing care and support over the last ten months.
Flowers are gratefully declined.
I leave with cherished memories and a full heart knowing how much I loved and was loved …..
