How do we say goodbye to Tyler? He was many things…a loving son, a precious brother to Rebecca and Brandy and Uncle to Paris. He was also, a godfather, a band member, and what made him happiest, a musician. He was a member of the Brotherhood at Milner Ridge, and most of all a friend. He was always there to lend a hand or lend an ear to anyone he met.
He was born on March 11, 1982 in Edmonton, AB. Brandy was so happy to have a little brother. He was her real live doll. She shared with him everything she knew as siblings do, preparing him for the arrival of their baby sister. Tyler was five when he became a proud big brother to Rebecca. He was there to take her hand when she was learning how to walk. Tyler was a constant in his sisters lives, as they shared their growing up years. Where did the time go. With his precious smile and caring manner, he was always a friend to all creatures. Whether it was a dog, cat or bunny, they loved him.
Because we were a military family, we moved around. We spent time in Calgary and Edmonton and then to Petawawa, Ont. Tyler loved the 17ft bowrider we bought. He loved the water and flying behind it on a sea –doo float. It was great family fun.
We arrived in Winnipeg August 1990. Tyler attended Pembina Crest School, Viscount Alexander and then graduated from Vincent Massey from the French Immersion program. While in school, he was always involved in many activities. Tyler and his Dad Don did Beavers and Cubs together. Mom, Linda joined him in Judo at the 17 Wing Judo Club.
His love of music started with piano lessons and the music bug soon moved on to the guitar. He started writing his own songs and never stopped. He got his first drum set in junior high and the music world really started to open up for him. I can still hear him making a racket in his room. In grade 7, the teacher looked around the room at the band students, pointed at Tyler and said “You get to play tuba.” He was the only kid big enough to carry it. Tyler’s tuba career was born and he lugged it around for the next 6 years. He loved the band trips.
Next Tyler decided it was time to get out there and make some money. One day after school, he stopped at KFC. His “chicken” career was launched and his many jobs in food services began. Soon he became a manager at KFC and from there he had worked at many restaurants in the city. To name a few: Southwood Supper Club, Canad Inns, Goldeyes at Shaw Park, and Triple B’s. Along the way, he honed his cooking and bartending skills. Always learning and having fun along the way. He also worked for That Guy From Mars, where he learned about home renovations as their office manager. I know you are probably wondering if Tyler ever only had one job?! Never would be that answer. He was always busy juggling jobs and playing music at charity gigs. He loved karaoke for any time, place or reason he could sing.
Presently, he was working for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers bartending at the football stadiums Pinnacle Room. His full time job was as a correctional officer. Needless to say, it is a stressful job and he did it with pride. No matter where he went, he gathered friends into his aura. He was loved by many.
What will we miss about Tyler? He will never be just a phone call away. We will miss him at the dinner table. At meals, he loved to carve the main course. He had the best taste buds in town and liked to spice things up. The chair where he should be, will be forever empty. He was always there in his usual band shirt and cargo shorts, no matter the season. Our hearts will be forever broken.
Tyler passed away suddenly at St. Boniface General Hospital ICU, in Winnipeg, MB on Friday, August 5 at 11:45 p.m. We would like to thank the hospital staff for their heroic efforts to try to bring Tyler back to us.
Thank you for all the beautiful flowers, great food, hugs and words of love. It’s the friends that are there when you really need then that get you through. They let you know we are not alone in our grief.
Thank you to the Angel, who stepped forward and said she would be honoured if she could be a Mom to Capri. Tyler loved Capri and she needed a forever home with someone we knew would give her the love she needs.
Always remember to hug your loved ones and tell then you love them. The time you have with them is precious and you never know how short that time may be. WE never got to say goodbye as he was gone in a blink of an eye.
We will forever love and miss him. So, Tyler guess all we can do is honour your memory and send you off with a bang.
In the words of his band Giv’r “KEEP ON KEEPIN ON”.
“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be” – Robert Munsch
Love you forever, from your Dad, Mom, Brandy, Rebecca and Paris.
