She will be lovingly remembered by her niece Jean Roth of Winnipeg; godchildren Alison Mercer of Duncan, BC and Sue and Bruce MacCutcheon of Winnipeg; and dear family friends Bob, Leslie, Justina and Jillian Swan of Thunder Bay. She was predeceased by her parents and sisters Marjorie Ward and Joyce Roth.
Vera was born in Winnipeg on August 3, 1926 the third daughter of Amy Gertrude and G. Frank Webster. Vera was raised in Fort Rouge attending La Verendrye, Earl Grey and Kelvin schools. Many carefree days as both youth and adult were spent at the family cottage at Wade, Ontario (Fox Lake). Following school Vera trained as a comptometer operator and, after a few jobs in various fields, found her niche at Canadian Oil (White Rose Gasoline) where she was employed for 20 plus memorable years. In 1969 Vera accepted a position with Manitoba Health and shortly thereafter joined the Civil Service Superannuation Board where she retired in 1990 as a pension administrator.
St. Luke’s Anglican Church played a large part in Vera’s life where she was actively involved with the Anglican Young Peoples Association (AYPA), sang in the choir and was a member of the Altar Guild. For the past 30 years Vera has been a parishioner of St. Bartholomew’s in Windsor Park.
Vera’s passing will leave a void in the lives of those who knew her. Her amazing wit, love of conversation, and sunny disposition will truly be missed.
According to Vera’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard with internment to take place at St. John’s Cathedral Cemetery in late spring.
Thank you to all at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for the exceptional care you gave Vera throughout her terminal illness and the many kindnesses and fellowship which brightened the last nine months of her life.
“My lips will rejoice when I sing unto thee:
and so will my soul whom Thou has delivered.”
