On September 10, 2010 Violet Smith at the grand age of 90 passed away peacefully.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Vanessa, son-in-law Ralph, brother Ivor (Anita), sisters-in-law Margaret, Molly, sisters-in-law in England Sita, Olive, Nedina and many loved nieces and nephews. Violet was predeceased by her husband Frank, mother Edna, father Wilfred, brothers Mervin and Grenville.
Violet was a woman that wore many hats, wife, sister, aunt, the one she was most proud of mother. A generous, kind, witty, loving soul. She began her journey in England where she worked for the railway and later joined the W.R.E.N., where she met her husband Frank. They lived for a short period of time in Norwich, immigrated to Canada to join her family a constant in her life with many gatherings and laughter. Not being one to sit, quickly joined in many groups and organizations over the course of time. One that held a special place in her heart was her church family at Holy Trinity and another of her favourites was her Tia Chi through Age and Opportunity where she spent many happy years practicing and teaching seniors along with building lifelong friendships that remain to this day. She was always one with a sense of adventure that took her on many holidays with her brother and his wife in their R.V. which, without fail, had a stop in Las Vegas and a trip with her girlfriend to Hawaii. Again with the march of time the adventures changed closer to home with many day trips with girlfriends and her days at the Charleswood Senior Day Program and impromptu gatherings in the apartment lobby. If it is possible to sum it up all one could say a life lived.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church, Donald and Graham. Interment will take place at Waverley Memorial Gardens at a later date.
We would like to thank the many people that made her independence possible. The team from home care which made her days great, the visits from church friends and Gordon for the many rides on Sunday and phone calls, the girls phone network now headed by Wally, Meno from Rana who always sorted things out, her hairdresser who made special trips on her days off, and her ever watchful and caring neighbours and the pharmacy at Shoppers, all the doctors that cared for her and to the nurses on the 5th floor at Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion at a time it was most needed.
