It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Vivian Marion Bothe on Friday, November 12, 2010. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 95 years.
Vivian was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Franklin Edward Bothe and her sister, Catherine Moir. She will be fondly remembered by Ron and Sherrie Bothe and their children, Laura, Jill, Kyle (Jennifer) and Ellen of Sherwood Park, AB, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vivian was born May 10, 1915 in Winnipeg, the second daughter of Robert Arthur and Mary Kate Williams. She grew up on Strathcona Street and later attended the University of Manitoba. She attained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1936 at the age of 21, at a time when few women attended university. While there she joined the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity in which she stayed active throughout her life. Vivian received her Diploma in Education in 1937. She began her teaching career in Flin Flon where she met Frank. They were married on July 13, 1940. Returning to Winnipeg, they spent many years living in the Riverview district.
In her youth Vivian was an accomplished tennis player. She became an avid gardener and bridge player. She and Frank enjoyed summers at Victoria Beach and travelled extensively throughout Canada and abroad. She was actively involved in the School Masters Wives Association. Over the years she was a member of Knox, Riverview and Churchill Park United Churches.
A private service will be held at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum. The family would like to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion to Vivian over the past years. Donations in memory of Vivian may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2.
