Dad was born in Flensburg, Germany on September 4, 1928. Dad came to Canada in 1953 and resided in Boissevain, Manitoba for two years on a farm. He then moved to Winnipeg in 1955. Dad married mom in 1959 and they raised six beautiful children; Jim, Doris (Jim), Willy, Sheila (Danny), Kathy (Tim), Chris (Terr); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in Brooklands.
Dad was an extremely hard worker, holding up to three jobs when we were younger to provide for his family. Dad worked for Ogilvie Flour Mills for many years.
In later years, dad travelled to Germany and spent his winters in Mexico for seventeen years.
Dad survived numerous health related challenges over the last eight years recovering able to carry on time and time again. Dad started going to a program called Prime, at Deer Lodge Hospital for the last seven years, Mondays to Fridays. This program brought immense joy to daddy’s life; it gave him a reason to get up and go for the day.
He would come home to his daughter Kathy’s, where he resided for many years, on the Vital Transit bus at day ending and share many wonderful stories of his day.
Special thank you to Bonnie Greig, Dr Russ Albak Gavin Roche and all the amazing staff for taking great care of our dad the last seven years. Dad had a fall a nomth ago that he was unable to overcome.
Our precious dad will be sorrowfully missed.
A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
It broke our hearts to lose you
but knowing you are at rest.
A private family interment and celebration will take place Thursday, July 25th, at Thomson “in the Park” Funeral Home.
