He is remembered as a loving husband, engaged father, pesky little brother and proud grandfather. From his roots in Nortonville, New Jersey, his 11-year career as a flight surgeon in the Air Force stationed him in many locales. In his civilian life he was a dedicated medical doctor, specializing in Radiology at the Lexington Clinic in Kentucky, Wilkes Radiology, and Triad Radiology in North Carolina for decades.
Never afraid to try something new, he was a man of many hobbies, with a penchant for adventure. He was known as a pilot, skier, biker, and amateur chef. He loved pickleball, the history channel, car shopping, and dogs, especially corgis. Wherever he went, a song followed. Say a word, any word, and he would belt out an obscure song related to that word, the entire lyrics of which he somehow knew by heart. His jubilant yet irreverent sense of humor — pranks in the office, playing with grandchildren, dressing up for costume parties — endeared him to all. Beneath the humor was a compassionate, and committed man, whose primary motivation was to make those around him happy.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bobbie Koriakin; his four children, Sean Koriakin (Stephanie Koriakin), Katherine Koriakin (Andrew Sherman), Christie Koriakin (Joel Betts) and Kelly Koriakin (Rob Works); his three grandchildren, Eleanor Koriakin, Landon Sherman, and Hayden Koriakin-Betts; his siblings Annette Dudzinski and Allen Koriakin; and his beloved corgi, Rocky. He was predeceased by his brother Alex Koriakin, his mother Anna Koriakin, and his father Alexander Koriakin.
A celebration of life is planned for October 26. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Forsyth County Humane Society (forsyth.cc/animal shelter) & Bike MS. (nationalmssociety.org). The family would like to thank the Novant Health Cancer Institute and his oncologist, Dr. Heather Shearer and her team for their excellent care.
