He emigrated to Winston-Salem in the 1960s to pursue an art education at Wake Forest University. While living in Winston, he met Regenia (Jean) Dulaney and the two were married in 1967. He worked for 20 years as a commercial artist and illustrator. He enjoyed painting (landscapes, wildlife, and the outside of his house) and watching local sports, particularly Wake Forest teams and NASCAR. During his retirement he worked in his garden and enjoyed spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren, great nephew and great niece. In 1988, he became a United States citizen.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, and is survived by daughters Carla Tarazona and Bridgett Clancy, grandsons Alex and Zack, his niece Heidi Miller and her children Ben and Marley, and siblings Blanca Tarazona, Ofelia Tarazona, Flora Tarazona, and Irma Tarazona who still live in Colombia.
The family will remember Carlos and Jean, who passed in October 2020, at a service Friday Aug. 20, 2021, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or the American Diabetes Association.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.voglerfuneralhome.com for the Tarazona family.
