Dr. Claude Alfred Smith Sr.

Dr. Smith is survived by his wife, Regina Wheat Smith of the home; children, Claude Alfred Smith, Jr of Falls Church, VA and Dr. James Anderson Smith of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Dr. Elaine Margaret Smith, student doctor Brian James Smith and Jacob Joseph Smith; siblings, Anderson Jones Smith of Greenville, SC and Edna Smith Stem of Wilson, NC. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Y. Smith; and brothers, Franklin Smith and John Smith.

Dr. Smith was born on September 30, 1928 in Black Creek, NC to Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Smith. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1950 with a Pre-Med degree and from The Jefferson Medical College with his MD in 1953. Dr. Smith was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon in 1954. Following his military service he then completed his residency in Radiology at Duke University Medical Center and practiced Radiology in Columbia, SC until 1966 when he moved to Winston Salem, NC. He was one of the founders of Forsyth Radiological Associates. He retired from active practice at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in 1994.

A graveside service will be held 11AM, Friday, August 21st at Forsyth Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 9 until 10:30 AM, Friday prior to the service at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, Reynolda Chapel. Following the service there will be a luncheon at Golden Corral, 180 Hanes Mall Circle, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
