Geraldine "Gerrie" Harrelson Mitchell

Geraldine “Gerrie” Harrelson Mitchell, 83, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025. She was born July 4, 1942 in St. Paul’s, NC to the late Roland and Addie Mae Harrelson of Lumberton, NC. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her children, Laura Mitchell and Mark Mitchell, daughter-in-law Wendy Mitchell, siblings Louise McNew and Johnny Harrelson and three grandchildren, Chloe, Phillip, and Graham. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Mitchell.

Gerrie will be remembered as a devoted and gracious friend, sister, wife, and mother. She found joy in cooking, reading, travel, gardening, history, and interior design. She was a devoted mother who participated in her children’s activities including scouting, school, band, sports, and youth at First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. After retiring from administrative work for the Wake Forest School of Law and School of Medicine, she and Bill enjoyed life at the Crystal Coast of NC where many friends and family visited. During retirement, they traveled in the US and abroad, visiting historic sites and museums in England, France and Italy. Gerrie loved visiting the Reynolda House, Graylyn and Tanglewood Park. Bill and Gerrie cherished their later years at Brookridge Community in Winston-Salem, where Gerrie entertained friends with her sweetness and wry humor.

Visitation will be held at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3815 Yadkinville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 pm at Forsyth Memorial Park.
