Larry was born on March 18, 1943 in Portsmouth, VA to Shirley Rhoades Stanley and Conley Montgomery Stanley. He grew up in Ashe County which remained his special place to visit for the remainder of his life. He came to Winston-Salem and worked for 33 years at Carolina Medical Electronics. He was married to his loving wife, Lola for 56 years and they had two sons, Thomas Stanley of Holly Springs, NC and Brian Stanley and wife, Holly, and two special grandchildren, Abigail and Mitchell, of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are his brother, Scott Stanley and wife, Amy, of Winston-Salem, NC, and niece and nephew, Callie Stanley and Scott Stanley. He is also survived by Lola’s four sisters whom he considered his sisters and who treated him like a brother. Larry was predeceased by his parents and older brother, Kenneth M. Stanley.
At the age of 13, Larry made a profession of faith and was baptized in the North Fork of the New River in Ashe County. He was a member of Old Town Baptist Church for 50 years. He was a dedicated Christian, husband, father, and Papa. He was an avid wood worker and made many lovely and appreciated items for his home as well as for family and friends. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. Larry had the ability to fix anything, which was often put to the test, and he seldom failed. Larry was awarded a Forsyth County Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer work at SECU Family House.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 22nd at 11am at the Gazebo at Forsyth Memorial Park with Pastor Rick Speas officiating.
