Robert Allen Martin, 79, of Pfafftown, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Bruce Benton Martin and Mildred Jones Martin.
Known to all who loved him as Bob, he was a man defined by strength, loyalty, and an unwavering sense of duty. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob carried his love of country and disciplined work ethic into every chapter of his life. Bob was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Dozier, North Carolina.
For more than 40 years, Bob applied his engineering skills, earning a reputation as an exceptionally talented, mechanically gifted craftsman. He possessed a rare ability to understand how things worked — and how they could work better. Throughout his career, he developed numerous time-saving and productivity-driving improvements, taking great pride in using his hands and his mind to solve problems others could not. If something was broken, Bob was the one you called.
But while he built machines and improved processes, his greatest work was done at home.
Bob was the rock of his family — steady, dependable, and fiercely loyal. He believed deeply in the value of a hard day’s work and lived by the principle: “A job worth doing is a job worth doing right.” If he gave his word, it was as good as done. He didn’t walk away from responsibility. He didn’t cut corners. And he expected the same integrity from those he loved — not through pressure, but through example.
He was married for 55 years to the love of his life, Ginny Long Martin. He often joked that “The key to a successful marriage is to say ‘Yes Dear,’” and with a grin would add, “Ginny may not be right, but she is never wrong.” Their marriage was built on devotion, humor, and steadfast partnership.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Ginny; his sons, Benjamin R. Martin and wife Libby S. Martin, and Silas D. Martin and wife Cara E. Martin; and his grandchildren, Cole Z. Martin, Noah D. Martin, and Ava L. Martin. He is also survived by his brother, B. Kenneth Martin and wife Brenda; and his loving dog, Molly.
Among his proudest personal accomplishments was teaching his grandson Cole to weld — passing on not just a skill, but a mindset: take pride in your work, do it right, and stand behind it.
Outside of work, Bob loved working on his farm and spending time with his family. Those who knew him best would describe him as honest, loyal, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His love was not loud — it was steady. It showed up. It fixed what needed fixing. It stood guard over the people he cared about.
His legacy is not measured only in the machines he repaired or the improvements he engineered, but in the sons he raised and the grandchildren who carry forward his values. His family loved him deeply — and that love is the foundation he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park.
