Born in Flint, Michigan, to Richard and Joanne Powers. Cathy attended elementary school in Swartz Creek and high school in Davison. Six of her seven siblings moved to Texas, while Cathy moved to Detroit with her young daughter. She started working for the City of Detroit, including at the police department, where she met her husband Jim.
She eventually earned a degree at Wayne State University. A project there sparked an interest in genealogy, which culminated in joining the DAR. She was also eligible to join the Mayflower Society.
After retiring at an early age, she and Jim travelled full-time in their RV motorhome. There were many adventures across the U.S.A.
The happy wife of Jim, proud mother of Suzanne (Don) Squier, and beyond thankful grandmother of Nick and Rachel was blessed with all of them who added so much joy to her life.
