He was born in Cresco, Iowa on July 27th, 1927, the 12th child and 7th son to the late John and Laura (Van DanAcker) Joerger.
Don was in the US Army Air Corps and met Marge while visiting the Alabama State Archives of History. Upon his discharge from the Army, Don attended Iowa State Teachers College and then moved to Alabama. He finished his degree at Auburn University. Don joined the Chicago Great Western Railway, eventually becoming Vice President, Secretary and Comptroller. After this railway merged into the Chicago & North Western, Don helped develop and implement a pension and profit sharing program for the railway.
Don married his, "Little Wifey", Marge, on February 18th, 1949 and they raised a beautiful family together. Upon retirement, they moved to Bonita Springs, Florida where they became active at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, the Knights of Columbus (4th degree) and Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marge Williford Joerger; children Sue McIntyre (Tom), Beth Mears (Robin), Connie Rainey (Steve), Janet Cruz (John), Larry Joerger (Donna), Doug Joerger (Dona), and Kevin Joerger (Amy); grandchildren, Jeremy Mears (Angie), Joy Mears Berish (Clay), Brian Mears, Kelly McIntyre Rivera, Michael McIntyre, Davis Joerger (Kimberly), Devin Joerger (Joey), Jessica Joerger, Danielle Joerger, Melissa Cruz, Aminda Rainey and Sharon Cruz; great-grandchildren, Kayla Rivera, Kirsten Rivera, Andrew Rivera, Grant Mears, Drew Mears, Abbey Berish, Brock Berish; only living sibling, Rita Kobliska of California.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, where Visitation will be held Saturday, September 17th, 2016 from 10:30am-12:00pm, at 428 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL 34787. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30pm at Resurrection Catholic Church, 1211 Winter Garden Vineland Rd., Winter Garden, Florida 34787. Interment will take place in Montgomery, Alabama the following Saturday, September 24th, 2016 preceded by a memorial service at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home and Cemetery at 10:00am.
