Dorothy “Dot” May Schneider (nee Andejeski) passed away on April 7, 2020 in Winter Garden, Florida. Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband Fred Schneider.
Dorothy is survived by her four sons, Fredrick II, Robb (Nicole), Ken (Jamie) and Jon (Carly). Amazing Grandmother to Matthew and Trevor Schneider; Alysha, Logan and Anna Schneider; and Heather Dobkins, Tori Adan and Brooke Lemoine; and great grandsons Aiden, Jaxon and Rainhardt. Sister to Rosie and Laura and is preceded in death by her brothers Art & Ralph and brother-in-laws Jim & Bill. Aunt “Dob” to her loving nieces and nephews who refer to her as a second Mom. She made everyone feel special and loved, like you were part of the Schneider family, because you were.
Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother that made every celebration, holiday and family get together special. She passed down many traditions that will be carried on and enjoyed such as her legendary lasagna and Christmas Bingo and “family” vacations to New Smyrna Beach.
With her deep Kentucky bluegrass roots, Dorothy’s passion for the Kentucky Wildcats during March madness, Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby and a taste of Maker’s Mark was well known. The annual singing of “My Old Kentucky Home” in perfect pitch by Dorothy and Fred was a highly anticipated event for as long as we can remember. They both shared a love for sports and were fierce competitors, which grew from the late nights of tennis at Western Hills Racquet Club to rounds of golf at Deer Run Country Club. Their competitive spirit was passed on to their sons and grandkids, who she truly loved watching play.
Her faith in the Catholic Church was unwavering and sent each of her sons through Catholic schools on the west side of Cincinnati. Whether it be the Blackhawks, Vikings or Panthers of Elder High School she instilled the values of pride, honesty, integrity, respect, a strong work ethic and sense of humor.
Professionally Dorothy became a RN, which came in handy later in life with patching up battle scars from brotherly love. After her full time career as a Mom, she went back to work at the Hamilton County Treasury office to help offset her passion of shopping at McAlpins, Hallmark and other shops.
Dorothy and Fred enjoyed traveling across the country and Europe, sometimes just the two of them or with groups of life long friends. If they weren’t packing up the car to head to Florida they were packing up the picnic basket for Delhi swim club. She played countless hands of bridge and looked forward to club and lunches with her girlfriends, some from as far back as Sacred Heart grade school.
She met her best friend and soul mate Fred during a dance at Coney Island’s Moonlight Gardens in June of 1960. They went on to marry one year later on September 9. They’ll be celebrating their 60th anniversary this year in heaven but trust us when we say, their will not be a dry eye when the following chorus is sung during the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby this September…
Weep no more my lady.
Oh! Weep no more today!
We will sing one song for my old Kentucky Home,
For the old Kentucky Home, far away.
Given the current restrictions in place, we will be postponing her Mass, funeral service at Spring Grove Cemetery and celebration of her life at a later date in Cincinnati, OH.
While Dorothy and Fred’s love and generosity to their family and friends were well known, their charities were very important to them. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make donations to any one of the following charities: Kindervelt, Hospice of Cincinnati or American Cancer Society.
