I was transferred to the Denver Marriott to begin a new job in the spring of 1976. I was introduced to this energetic young man with this big warm smile and boundless energy, Hugh Barrett. We began a very close working relationship managing the Housekeeping, Laundry and recreation departments and there was not a day that went by that I did not appreciate Hugh´s tremendous passion, hard work and ability to communicate with our staff in a way that to this day I have not seen replicated.

He had a unique charm and understanding which resonated with everyone he met.

His encyclopedic knowledge of the Housekeeping and Laundry was incredible and his ethos of never asking some to do a job that he would not do was his hallmark. 

Hugh had told me that he started in the business by working in the Laundry at the New Orleans Marriott during the period of 1973. I told him that I did my internship in Accounting at the New Orleans Marriott in 1973 and remembered this young max with long blond hair and that same infectious big smile sitting in a laundry cart each morning. That was Hugh!

He was a joy to work with, a good friend, husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all of us who had the opportunity to know him.

We never worked together again but I followed his career and was so proud of his accomplishments.

Even though we had not seen or talked much over the years I will miss his spirit, his enthusiasm for life and family and that big warm smile that was his trademark.

Rest In Peace my dear friend, I will miss you.

A young girl applying for housekeeping, you pushed me to be where I’m at today . 5 years ago In the break room like I’m not ready for this he’s not going to hire me ,but no I was handed an opportunity. Dadio, you’re the best they come. From Dadio to pops to papa to Mr. to manager. A man of many hats. You’re Patient , strong, caring, courageous, loyal, dependable, positive, resilient, my rock when I’m in need of… anything, and the BIGGEST heart possible.   
To be lucky enough to experience such a deep love… a true respect, I’m blessed. ❤️

I’m impressed pops, how can you have so many good sides? How can you love so many? How can you be loved by so many? You’ve aced life. You’ve aced love. You’ve built quite the life, I’m proud of you. Your selflessness has sewn seeds of beautiful love and beared fruit, And now I’m witnessing it. ❤️

I thank you for the warm hugs, the snuggles, the crazy carpooling, the long project nights, the early highschool mornings, putting up with my teenage shinanagans, the amazing vacations, the beautiful pool days, the fun game nights, the incredible birthday parties, the perfect baby showers, the strenuous fixer-upper house improvements, the morning pep talks, the night pep talks, the pep pep talks, the work effort examples, and the everlasting support you’ve given me. You’ve accepted all of us for who we are and never tried to change anything ❤️


You’ve been there from the beginning and will always be here our souls. I will try to carry all your beautiful qualities throughout my life and though it will be difficult and take practice, I will try to fill those extremely large shoes ❤️ you live in all the better parts of us. We thank you for literally doing everything you could for us your entire life. We are truly blessed to have you in our lives and our hearts forever.
