She came from a family of 4 brothers (James, John, Andrew, Robert,) and 6 sisters (Jaso, Chandra, Joyce, Pasty, and Helen) in which she is the second eldest.
Joan attended Maryville Canadian Mission School. /She passed her 6th standard exams, and she gained her school certificate as well as the girls needle work certificate.
Joan was married on June 2nd, 1958, to the late Raj Persaud Chowtie. The union produced 6 children ( Richard, Arnold, Robeena, Sheleta, Charles and Annand the youngest child).
During her life in Guyana, she worked the rice field, raised cattle, and was a full time mother.
She moved to the U.S. in 1990 working for two different airlines, While working two jobs, She saved money to bring her children and grandchildren over from Guyana got a better life.
Joan then moved to Florida in 1998 where she worked for Walt Disney for 10 years until retirement.
She loved to attend church and praise Jesus, and was given the nickname “Prayer Warrior” among her church peers. Her favorite programs to watch were religious sermons, and listening to gospel music.
Her garden was attended to everyday, and she nursed small plants that quickly grew into mighty trees in her own back yard. She was the family seamstress. Everyone went to her when their clothes needed adjustments. She was also passionate about her cooking, and teaching others about her craft.
Joan went to be with the lord on October 17th, 2022 at 8:44PM.
She leaves behind 4 children (Richard, Arnold, Sheleta and Charles
6 grandchildren (Damien, Tiffanny, Javed, Kevin, Melanie and Joshua)
3 great grandchildren (Tyler, Aria, and Lucas.)
Many of the family members were not listed but she loved everyone equally
Joan will be missed in the hearts of many and her memories will be lived vicariously through her loved ones
A viewing for Joan will be held Monday, October 24, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Glad Tidings Church, 2009 E. Fullers Cross Rd., Ocoee, FL 34761. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 24, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 2009 E Fullers Cross Rd, Ocoee, FL 34761. A committal service will occur Monday, October 24, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Winter Garden Cemetery, 13459 Lake Butler Blvd, Winter Garden, FL 34787. A repass will occur at 890 Licaria Drive, 890 Licaria Drive, Ocoee, Florida.
