Maude Adina Dorset, daughter of Hubert and Lucy Dorset, was born on July 16, 1931, in Colonaire, St. Vincent. She migrated to LaBrea, Trinidad. In 1969, she emigrated to Harlem, New York, determined to provide a better life for her family. In 1975, Maude reunited with her 7 children in the United States.
She was the nanny and caregiver to affluent families in Manhattan for many years. They loved her dearly and treated her like a member of their family. Her hard work and dedication paid off. She invested her money in real estate and became a successful landlord. When she was not working, Maude dedicated her time to volunteering and fundraising for her local church. Above all, she took her grandchildren with her everywhere she went. They would tell you that every day was an adventure with Grandma Maude.
Maude had a big heart and opened her home to friends and family from Trinidad. Her door was always open to anyone in need. In 1993, Maude retired to Ocoee, Florida and practiced the same lifestyle, and continued her dedication to her church, family, and friends.
She was known to her family and friends as the “Dancing Queen” with a big heart. She loved participating in the annual Carnival in Orlando, Miami, and Trinidad. She also won a dancing competition at 75 years old. Maude enjoyed spending time in her garden with her flowers, and numerous fruit trees.
Maude was summoned by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 20, 2021, surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home in Ocoee, Florida. She is survived by her beloved family:
