November 16, 1968- December 20, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David “Dave” Alan Powell, age 57, on December 20, 2025, in Winter Haven, Florida. Dave was a loving father, devoted son, proud grandfather, and cherished friend, known for his kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit.
Dave was born on November 16, 1968, in Winter Haven, Florida. He grew up in Wahneta, Florida, where he spent his childhood fishing, playing outdoors, and making lasting memories with his family—especially his beloved grandfather, Pa. He graduated from Winter Haven High School and, following graduation, relocated to upstate South Carolina, where he raised his children and built a life centered around family and hard work. In recent years, Dave returned to Winter Haven, finding joy in reconnecting with old friends and cherishing time spent with his family.
A skilled craftsman, Dave had a special talent for wood carving and was also a successful and personable salesman. He was well known for his outgoing nature, warm personality, and ability to connect easily with others. Dave took great pride in his work and was a dedicated provider for his family.
Family and fellowship were at the heart of Dave’s life. He cherished time spent with loved ones, especially while grilling good food and sharing laughter and stories. He had a passion for photography and a deep appreciation for music. His favorite moments were spent outdoors, relaxing around a fire and enjoying the company of those he loved.
Above all, Dave was a devoted father and grandfather. He adored his three children and five grandchildren, who were the greatest joys of his life. He especially enjoyed soaking up every moment with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Pa. His legacy of love, hard work, and generosity will be remembered always.
David is survived by his loving children, Clay Powell, Stacy Todd (Harmon Todd), and Sarah Armstrong (Adam Armstrong); his cherished grandchildren, Colleen, Kylie, Colton, John, and Lillian; his parents, Howard Powell and Diane Powell; and his sister, Christy Dowdy (Rocky Dowdy).
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, William Thomas Palmer, Juanita Palmer, and Josie Mann; and his uncle, John E. Palmer.
Dave’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the importance of family. He will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the memories shared, the laughter echoed, and the love passed down through generations.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
—John 11:25 (NIV)
