

Educator, Football and Track Coach

Herman lived 86 years filled with many fantastic memorable events and stories. He is survived by his wife Margaret Ann and they were lovingly devoted to each other for 63 years. He is also survived by his beautiful, talented daughter, Lady Ann and his wonderful, successful son, Jon Alan. Jonathan, his great grandson, has brought him pride and joy every day of his life. And Oh! Jonathan has loved living with his Papa in his big house and listening to Papa’s life stories. Also surviving is his lovely granddaughter Amy and two great grandchildren, Micah and Avah. He also leaves behind his brother Oscar. Two precious daughters, Vicky Lynn, and Mary Alicia preceded him in death, also a granddaughter, Amanda Lynn, his brother, Melton and his parents, Charlie and Ruby.

• Tough kid on the winning side of many boyhood fist-a-cuffs

• Soldier in Korea and Japan, U.S. Army
• LSU graduate with a Master’s Degree in Education Administration
• Sunday School Teacher
• Deacon
• Gideon
• Head football and track coach
• Coach of many great athletes and successful young men
• Honored by 1964-65 Blue Devil football team as being “Mr. 100%”
• High School Principal, WHHS. AHS
• Senior Games medalist in local, state and national competition
• Winner of 100’s of 5k’s and other races throughout Florida
• Traveler and adventurer
• Lover of good food, especially banana pudding and sweet potato casserole
• Member of Faith Baptist Church
• An eternal resident of heaven and New Jerusalem living in a glorious home prepared just for him
Now, “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8)
On Thursday, March 25, the family will receive friends who wish to say goodbye and join in the celebration of Herman’s life at Faith Baptist Church, 2140 Crystal Beach Road, Winter Haven from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. Refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity for sharing memories. A private graveside ceremony will be held in Meadville, Mississippi in June where Herman’s ashes will be buried alongside his daughters, Vicky and Alicia. God’s Holy Word will be read and prayers will pour from our hearts…not for Herman but for comfort to those he left behind.
