

John Wesley Burr Jr. was born August 4th, 1946 in Winter Haven, FL; the loving son of John Sr. and Olive Burr. John is survived by his son Philip Aaron Burr and brother William Burr (Diane) nephew Michael Burr.
John attended local schools, growing up in Eagle Lake, FL he attended Eagle Lake Elementary, Central School, Denison Junior High and graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1964. John was a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserve honorably discharged after serving 6 and a half years. John was a graduate of Polk Junior (State) College with an AA in Business Administration, and a graduate of University of South Florida in 1970 with a BA in Business Administration and a minor in Distributive Education. John taught Distributive Education in Chipley, FL 1970 to 1972.
Returning to Winter Haven, John joined his father's firm John W. Burr Construction. John earned his General Contractors license in 1973. In 1975 John received his Real Estate license joining First Florida Realty as an associate realtor; shortly thereafter John received his Real Estate Brokers license and purchased Glenn D. Gerke Realty (the oldest real estate office in Winter Haven). John established Burr and Associates Realtors in 1977 remaining active until 2009.
John W. Burr Construction was taken over in 1988 when John Sr. retired and was incorporated as John W. Burr and Sons Construction, Inc.; owned by John and his brother Bill. John was active until 2009; the company is in its 69th year.
Aside from John's business endeavors John was an active member of Winter Haven Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving in many various offices for over 10 years; he was a member and past exalter ruler of the Winter Haven Elks Club.
John joined the Winter Haven Lion's Club and was instrumental in acquiring land and building the Lions Park on Lake May designed for children with physical disabilities. John was a member of the American Legion Post 8 in Winter Haven. John served on Code Enforcement Boards for the city of Winter Haven and Polk County.
Graveside service for family and friends will be Saturday January 8th, 2022 at 11AM. The family invites those who would like to attend a celebration of life beginning at Noon Saturday January 8, 2022 held at Tanner's Lakeside.
