

Norma Hawes Tyler, 88, of Winter Haven died on October 18, 2013 due to respiratory failure. Native to Dade city, Florida, she was the daughter of Pasco Packing Company pioneer L.C. Hawes Sr. Norma graduated from Pasco High School in 1942. She attended Stephens College for two years and then earned a Bachelor of Science from Rollins College in 1946. That summer, she married Tim Tyler, an Air Force pilot from California and began a whirlwind life as a military wife living in Turkey, Morocco, Okinawa and all over the United States. Following her husband's retirement, they moved to Winter Haven in 1975 and became active volunteers in civic affairs. Norma will be especially remembered for her tireless dedication to the Symphony Guild of Winter Haven and the Air Force Association. She also served on the Altar Guild at Grace Lutheran. She was a gracious hostess, good friend and avid bridge player. First time acquaintances as well as life-long friends spoke often of Norma's elegance and example as a true lady.
She was preceded in death by her husband Brigadier General Morgan Tyler, her son Steven Gregory Tyler and her brother Mark Hawes Jr. She is survived by her daughter the Rev. Pamela Tyler and son Morgan Tyler along with two granddaughters Kelly Ferguson and Hannah Tyler and four great grandchildren
The Funeral Service will be held 3PM Thursday October 24 at Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, the Symphony Guild of Winter Haven and Grace Lutheran Church.
