Grampy Roy ...... thanks for the best turn on the dance floor ... EVER! Hope the music and memories continue for you and Anita, so happy you are together again ......

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child.  My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

That picture says it all, I ( we ) are sad but very happy that Grampy and Grammy are together again...the weekend that pic was taken was Bridget and Josh's wedding, I remember Amy taking Grampy dancing at the reception ( I believe I was forced to dance with Grammy ).....it was a funny night....oh geez! ......the crab feast the night before!!!!, I recall a waiter coming to clear our table and asking "who ate all the crab?"...to which Kurt replied "it was Grammy".....always made me laugh.

Miss you and love you Grampy, give Grammy a hug from me will ya?

Although I did not have the privilege of knowing Mr. Roy closely...I know that he was very much loved.  It is clear that he lived a full life that yielded a wonderful family.  My thoughts are with you.

Grampy Al was a good man- all of my memories of him are positive.  He was a terrific grandfather, who along with Grammy, always made us feel welcome and comfortable in his home.  It's a testament to him that I wanted to visit them in Florida as often as I did.

When I think of (my) Grampy Alcide (as my dad Bill is now my kids "Grampy", I think of the little house on Cuba Street in Andover, Mass where you could hear the church bell ring and the train crossing down the hill.  The house that always seemed full of people laughing playing cards.  Grampy could often be found in a lawn chair on the shady sidewalk chatting with his friend and neighbor Mal.  Grampy would always say to us kids - Oh you better check with "The Boss" about that (Grammy Anita) Grampy was also known for his amazing singing rendition of Old Man River. He loved red pepper relish and the  old french canadian recipe of "couton" pork/mashed potato/poultry seasoned pies and mashed carrots - he was a meat & potatoes guy. He was nicknamed "Pug" Roy affectionately for his pug nose which has been inherited by at at least two generations of Roy kids and grandkids (including my dad Bill and my own 4 year old Calvin who also confidently weilds his collection of carpentry tools - taught by Grampy Bill of course) looking back at old pictures of Alcide and Anita in their younger days I can see that he was a very handsome man - he loved Grammy Anita with her hummels and her red cardinals and her bingo very much.  In their later years they spent time together registering voters especially at Fairs so that Anita could attend the big country music shows and he enjoyed time playing shuffleboard at their Florida trailer park with his Canadian "snowbird" friends. I think of him as the man who raised a large family with small resources and who had a kindly, modest, if bit gruff personality  with old-fashioned values he was "a man of few words".  I only wish more of the  family he helped create was still together and in touch today.  We will miss him along with Grammy Anita, Dickie and of course Donna - their sense of humor and laughter will stay with me forever. I only wish they could all have lived to know and love my own sons Leo and Cal.  We live in New Jersey but I try in little ways to keep the Roy cousins and new great-grandkids  connected still.  It's been a long time since a Roy Family reunion at Pomps Pond park.  Grampy would be the one winning at horseshoes.  I want to personally thank my dad Bill who flew repeatedly across the country from Northern California to visit with Grampy Alcide.  But it was my Uncle Michael and his amazing wife Kathy and their son Kevin who have been watching over my grandfather in these latest years down in Florida - I know they helped make his life continue to be worth living and I'm forever grateful to them for their love and generousity of time and spirit.  

For any long lost Roy or Jean family members or cousins that would like to get in touch please feel free to reach out and I will do my best to help keep the connections going in our family.  We will miss our Grampy Alcide very much - we are grateful to him for our lives and our childrens lives and all that we have.

Oh dad how we are going to miss you.  The way your eyes would light up when you smiled and how good you made everyone around you feel.
We should not be sad, but happy that you are finally with Anita, the wife you loved and missed every single day.
We love you so much dad and feel so blessed to have had you in our lives!
