Born in Syracuse, New York, she received her Bachelor and Master Degrees from Syracuse University. Following WW II, she traveled to Europe, where she taught English to allied foreign troops. Here, she met the love of her life, Lt. Colonel Kenneth B. Almond. Eventually they, and their son Neal, returned to the United States. Anne was hired by Orange County Public Schools, where she taught English. With her passion for helping students, she eventually became a guidance counselor, and continued in this capacity until retiring. In retirement, her love of teaching continued and she served as a substitute teacher for years.
Anne was an educational adviser for European assigned American military personnel and a Vice President of the American Association of University Women. She was an eager volunteer with local schools, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Edyth Bush Theatre. Even in her last years her educational passion continued to burn; she taught courses at her residence on using the English language correctly.
Travel, golf, friends and family were sources of fulfillment and joy for this giving lady. As those who knew her can attest, she had wit, attitude, and abundant youthful energy.
Mrs. Almond is survived by her son, Neal Almond, her granddaughter, Jaicee, her sisters, June Hoyt and Dorothee Senich, and numerous nieces and nephews.
