

Bernard R. (Bob) Brumfield, born September 2, 1919 in rural Jessamine County, Kentucky, passed away February 2, 2011. Bob graduated from Nicholasville High School in Nicholasville, KY and received his B.A. from Transylvania University in Lexington and his Masters Degree in Education from the University of Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1939 to 1941 as a member of the 12th Bomb Group, 83rd Squadron and flew 53 Bomb Missions in Italy and India.
He was an educator, teaching school in Kentucky and Florida before becoming an administrator. He served as Assistant Principal at Apopka High School and Mid Florida Technical School and as Principal at Union Park Elementary before retiring in 1984. He coached football and basketball at Glenridge Jr. High School and Cherokee Jr. High School.
Bob was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Maitland where he was an elder, a member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara, their daughters Becky Lou (Mark) Stanley and Sara Rae (Michael) Howeller, his grandson Dylan Howeller and granddaughters Elizabeth Stanley, Madison Howeller and Emily Stanley. Bob is also survived by his brother George William Brumfield and sister Mary Ester Lockridge.
A Memorial Service for Bob will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Maitland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of the Comforter or the First Presbyterian Church of Maitland in memory of Mr. Brumfield.
