A woman of fierce intelligence, spirited wit, and an iron resolve, Cecilie was a force of nature who led her life with grace and strength.
Born in El Paso, Texas, Cecilie was the daughter of the late Brigadier General William E. Carlson and Nancy Carlson. Raised within the discipline and honor of a military family, she carried those values into her own distinguished 30-year career with Orange County. A true veteran of the County, she was respected by colleagues for her sharp mind, her dedication to public service, and her unwavering commitment to doing what was right.
To her daughter, Courtney, Cecilie was far more than a mother; she was her soulmate, her life partner, and her absolute best friend. For 39 years, they shared a home and a life so completely integrated that they functioned as one heart. Cecilie was the anchor of their home, providing a foundation of love and strength that was constant, protective, and unconditional.
Her greatest pride and joy was her grandson, Austin. To Cecilie, he was her “sweet precious,” and there was no length she wouldn’t go to for him. Her legacy of fierce advocacy and tender love will live on through him and the countless lives she touched during her decades of service.
Cecilie was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Paul Carlson. She is survived by her devoted daughter and best friend, Courtney Haymes, and her husband Chris; her beloved grandson and pride and joy, Austin Letendre; her brother, Brad Carlson, and his wife Marcy; and a community of friends and colleagues who will forever miss her vibrant spirit.
She fought her final battle on her own terms, with the same fire she lived by. Cecilie has finally found her well-earned peace, leaving behind a family that will honor her strength in every breath they take.
