

Lt. Col. Charles A. Lynch, USA-Ret passed away on October 2, 2016 at 8:20pm at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 80. Charles was born in Johnstown, PA on November 8, 1935. Charles joined ROTC at a young age and continued on with his military career with the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring in 1983. Charles was proud to be a Vietnam Veteran serving with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. While still in the service, he was combat wounded and earned the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), life member of the American Legion, member of the National Museum United States Army, and life member of the Military Officers Association of America. After his military career, he settled with his family in Orlando, FL and spent the next 33 years doing the other things he loved most; writing beautiful original poetry, singing and playing the piano, drawing owls and flowers, maintaining an impeccable yard, chatting with neighbors, making friends everywhere and being a caregiver to his wife, five children, nine grandchildren, and more pets than we should mention. He always reminded everyone to “Do the right thing” and “Say your prayers.” Charles is loved and remembered by his wife Virginia, son Charles A. (Pamela), son Christopher (Sheila), daughter Carolyn, son Colbert (deceased), daughter Colleen Halflants (Michael), grandchildren Catherine, Charles, John, Michael, Isabelle, Lauryn, Heidi, Thomas and Claire, parents John C. and Claire (Dimond), and brothers John (deceased) and James (deceased).
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm EST at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home Ivanhoe, 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd, Orlando, FL 32804, 407-898-8111. Flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home. Mass intentions are also appreciated. A Funeral Mass will take place at 12pm, Monday, October 10, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church (Main Chapel), 5125 S. Apopka-Vineland Road, Orlando. After Mass, you may follow the procession to the Committal Service at Glen Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789.
