Eleanor W. Luff was born in Berlin, Germany on January 7, 1922. On February 5, 2016, at the age of 94, she passed away at her home surrounded by loving family. As a young girl, her family left the city and moved near a rural area where she developed a great love for the outdoors. Hiking, snow skiing and tennis brought her immense joy. As a part of her education she graduated as an interpreter fluent in English, Spanish and French and her language skills served her well in the years to come. She lived through the horror of Hitler’s rise to power and World War II. She was forever scarred by what she experienced but also forever grateful to so many people that provided refuge to her family in their most desperate times. In 1947 she moved to Orlando where she soon met Harry C. Luff, Jr. They were married in 1948 and enjoyed a wonderful life together. Whether gardening and enjoying the wildlife at their home on Lake Highland, watching a sunrise at their condominium at the New Smyrna Beach, skiing in Colorado, hiking in the Swiss Alps or at their second home in North Carolina, outdoor activity and an appreciation for nature was a passion she and Harry shared and passed on to their children. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harry C. Luff, Jr., daughter Karen Clark, son David Luff (Ann), grandchildren Teresa Brown, Kristin Balthrop (Jonathan), Emily McComb (Dyar), Chad Luff (Kylie) and five great grandchildren, McKayla, Carter, Chase, Marin and Chandler. The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to Vicki Smith, loving caregiver and friend, the many families in the neighborhood that have shown kindness and support through her illness and also to the nurses of Hospice of the Comforter that provided comfort and support through a most difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to Hospice of the Comforter, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center or your favorite charity.
