Born on July 2, 1944, in St. George's, Grenada to Franklin and Christiana Dragon. Godfrey learned the value of hard work and responsibility at an early age.
He attended Hinzey School and quickly became known for his strong work ethic and many talents. As a young man in Grenada, Godfrey held a variety of positions, including carpenter and police officer, demonstrating both skill and dedication in every role he undertook. He loved math and that is why he was so good as a carpenter and welder.
In 1969, he relocated to St. Croix, Virgin Islands where he began working as a security officer for Hess Oil. On October 17, 1970, he married the love of his life, Carmen Blair. Together, they built a beautiful family. In 1976, the family moved to Baytown, Texas, where, Godfrey trained as a welder. Over the next two decades, he traveled throughout the country, contributing his expertise to major welding projects nationwide.
Godfrey was admired for being hardworking, dependable, and exceptionally skilled in his craft. His final professional role was with Orlando Utilities Commission, where he faithfully worked from December 3, 2001, until his retirement on June 1, 2019.
In retirement, Godfrey found joy in life's simple pleasures- sharing meals with loved ones, especially enjoying his favorite Kentucky Fried Chicken, spending treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and traveling with family. Despite having a very challenging cancer diagnosis Godfrey fought through multiple treatments and physical challenges to attend various family gatherings including weddings, birthday celebrations and graduations. He also loved to travel, one of his most memorable adventures was a cruise to Alaska, a trip he deeply enjoyed.
Godfrey leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Carmen Dragon; his children, Michelle, Cecil, Donna, Ross (Frances), and Randall (Yvonne): more than 10 grandchildren; over 20 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever remember his strength, love, and unwavering dedication to family.
