James Kevin McGann

James Kevin McGann, age 93 of Winter Park, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024. He was born January 16, 1931, in Peoria, Illinois. He moved to Florida in 1956 with his wife Wanda Jean from Danville, Illinois. He was a Roman Catholic and a longtime member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. They raised their family of six in Winter Park, Florida. As a dedicated leader and cherished community member, he leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and compassion that touched the lives of many.

As a retired, General Manager of Prudential Insurance Company spanning 58 years where he achieved a Presidential Citation in every capacity as an agent, Sales Manager, and General Manager. He was past President of St. Petersburg Life Underwriters Association and President of Florida State Life Underwriters Association. He was awarded the Florida Life Underwriter of the Year award, Central Florida General Manager of the Year and the Broward County GAMA “Man of the Year” award. He was the President of St. Margaret Mary Parish Council, Officer of the U.S.O. Orlando Naval Training Center, Officer of The Center for Drug Free Living, Inc. Member of the Rotary Club of Winter Park where he served as President and District Governor. During his membership of over 30 years, he received the Distinguished Paul Harris Fellow, as well as the Perfect Attendance Award while chairing and serving on numerous committees. During his tenure as Rotary District Governor, was District Secretary, Chairman of the Finance Committee and Vice Chairman of the Rotary Youth Leadership Association along with speaking to approximately 35 Rotary Clubs per year throughout the Southeast. He served on the District Delegate Zone Advisory Council, trained incoming District Governors and was the Coordinator for Zone 34 Task Force for Prevention of Blindness and Team Leader Polio Eradication Team. He served as the District Delegate for Rotary International Council on Legislation in 1998 in New Delhi, India and was elected a second time to attend the International Council on Legislation.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Jean McGann of 64 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael & Beatrice McGann, siblings, Jack McGann, Mary Day, Patrick McGann and Robert McGann and son Kevin Edward McGann. He is survived by his children, Maureen Abbott (Keith), Michael McGann, Karen Calhoun, Patricia Stimmel (Gene), Pamela Cate (Larry). He was a loving grandfather to Kevin (Brittany), Kimberly, Kyle (Tara), Kory, Robert, Chandler (Scott), Kaitlin (Clay), Megan, Sean, Tyler, Madison, Trent and Great Grandchildren, Sadie, Talan, Blaine, Knox, Kolton, Kameron, Paxton, Cash, Blake and Parker. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 7th, 3:00-7:00 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Goldenrod Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 8th, 11:00 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Ave., Winter Park, Florida 32789. A private interment will be at Palm Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Margaret Mary Catholic School or Rotary Club of Winter Park Foundation in his name.

A reception will immediately follow the Funeral Mass in the Parish Hall.
