
Jean A. Malloy, 79, of Maitland, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2016, in Avon, Ohio. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend who loved the arts and worked to make the world more peaceful and understanding. Born in Joliet, Illinois to Frank and Flossie L. Norris, she attended Western Michigan University, where she met the great love of her life, H. James “Jim” Malloy. She went on to receive a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, specializing in literature. She and Jim built a loving family for themselves and their three children, sharing and nurturing each other until Jim’s passing in 1987. Jean was a prolific writer and tireless editor, writing and editing for many local publications, including Orlando Magazine, Central Florida Magazine, Coastal Living, and numerous others. She loved the arts—literature, visual arts, the opera, and particularly the theater. Devoted to the Presbyterian Church, Jean worked tirelessly for the Peacemaking efforts of the Central Florida Presbytery. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and survived by her three children, Jeanne Dowis (husband Nick) of Albuquerque, NM; Sean Malloy (wife Amy) of Avon, OH; and Michael Malloy (wife Allison) of Charlotte, NC; as well as six grandchildren, Jill and Max Dowis, Kelly and Declan Malloy, and Jack and Grant Malloy; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 7520 Aloma Ave, Winter Park, Florida 32792.
