
Age 86 of Maitland, FL, passed away July 10, 2025. Joan was born August 17, 1938 in North Hempstead, NY. Joan grew up in Ohio and, after graduating from Centerville High School and attending Ohio State University, moved to Kansas to marry Ted Hootman (deceased) and raise four boys.
While in Wichita, Joan was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She would also become the Director of Administration for Taco Tico. In the late 1980’s Joan moved to Florida and became active in All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park. She was fully engaged with the All Saints Friendship Circle and brought together members from two churches. Joan was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, first as an organizing member of the Sofia Fleming Chapter in Orange Park, FL, and then in the Orlando Chapter in Orlando, and she was a member of the Samuel West Chapter of the Daughters of the Union. Joan worked for AAA in Orlando until retirement.
She is survived by sons Michael Hootman (C. Robert), Mark Hootman (Norma) and many blended family members, Matthew Hootman (Michelle), granddaughter Lisa and great-granddaughter Amora, John Hootman, granddaughter Brookelynn and grandson Braden. Joan’s siblings are Kathy McComb Martin (Leon) both deceased, Nancy Wyatt (George), Martha Shelnutt (Judson), and John McComb (Vicki). Many nieces and nephews round out her large family.
In later life, Joan met Ted Holdorf at All Saints Church, and he was a beloved longtime friend.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, August 18 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 Lyman Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789. Joan will be interred at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park, OH.
