

After a courageous three year battle with sarcoma cancer, Kenneth Douglas Martin ended his journey at the “18th Hole” on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at age 70. He is survived by his wife, Susan Martin of Winter Park, FL.; son Mark Martin of Grayslake, IL.; son and daughter-in-law Scott & Lynnette Martin of Rutherfordton, NC; daughter and son-in law, Edith and Travis Windsor of Savannah, GA; seven grandsons and one granddaughter.
Doug was born in Ft. Thomas, KY, March 13, 1940 to Kenneth and Edith Martin, and had an older brother Ralph. He and his family attended the First Christian Church. He graduated from Highlands High School, in 1958, where he was active in basketball, golf and a member of the Highlands State Championship football team. He married Annie Hoffmann, his high school sweetheart, on September 1, 1962.
He received his BS in Commerce from W&L University where he was Dean’s List, Honor Roll, and was a member of the All Virginia College Football Team. In only one year, he earned his MBA from University of North Carolina in 1963. He held senior management positions with The Gillette Company; President and CEO of Scripto; Group Executive of Allegheny International; Group President & CEO of Mennen; Vice Chairman, COO and Board of Directors of Primerica Corporation; and Vice Chairman, President, CEO and Board of Directors of NestFamily.com. In Orlando he was President of Tupperware North America and a member of Premark International’s “President’s Council” from 1984 – 1990. He was a member of the Board of Visitors of the Keenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina, and the National Advisory Board for The Georgia Institute of Technology.
He was an avid golfer and played in numerous Pro-Am Golf Tournaments including the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and Walt Disney World Oldsmobile Classic. He was a member of Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, FL and Eastward Ho Country Club in Chatham, Mass. He also proudly played in the Hanger Prosthetics Amputee Golf Tournament in 2009.
A visitation will be held Friday, February 4, from 5 – 7 PM at the Dobbling Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at the First Christian Church, 1031 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, KY, followed immediately by a brief service at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, 25 South Alexandria Pike, Southgate, KY, [email protected] .
A visitation will also be held Wednesday, February 2, from 6 – 9 PM at the Carey-Hand Funeral Home at 1350 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789,
